“Working for a wide range of clients & industries”

Hi, I’m Joop Andriesse and I have been working at VIRO since the end of 2025. After completing my Mechanical Engineering studies at Delft University of Technology, I came across a vacancy for a junior position within the Engineering Analysis department at VIRO’s Arnhem office. Strength calculations and simulations were my main area of interest during my studies. Therefore, this role immediately felt like a logical and suitable next step.

Learning a lot & good guidance

What I enjoy about working at VIRO is the variety of projects. You get the opportunity to work for a wide range of clients and industries, allowing you to learn a great deal in a short period of time and discover which activities and projects suit you best. In addition, the senior engineers are always open to questions and are happy to share their knowledge. There is also plenty of opportunity to attend external courses and training programs, so you can continue to develop yourself continuously.

Furthermore, VIRO attaches great importance to a healthy work-life balance. My favourite hobby, sports, is also actively encouraged. For example, I participated in the Winter Triathlon Twente sponsored by VIRO, and a mountain bike clinic is coming up soon.

Interesting projects

In my current position, I am responsible for performing finite element analyses (FEA). This involves analysing customers’ 3D models to demonstrate that structures comply with the applicable standards and design requirements. This includes loads caused by earthquakes, wind and pressure, as well as more dynamic analyses such as fatigue and impact calculations.  At the moment, I am working on a project in which a component of an ASML machine is being validated for strength under seismic loading. This is an interesting project in which vibration patterns play an important role in the strength assessment. In addition, together with my colleagues, I have carried out fatigue calculations for a smart warehouse where robotic carts drive around (and also need to be able to brake). As a result, we were able to improve the estimated lifespan of the racking system through certain design modifications.

Developing myself at VIRO

For me, VIRO is therefore an excellent employer for starters who want to learn a lot, develop themselves and enjoy working in a dynamic and technically challenging environment.
