My name is Ivo Morsink, I’m 33 years of age, and I live in Denekamp. As I grew up in the countryside, I quickly became familiar with all kinds of machinery and vehicles. At a relatively early age I bought my first moped, and I often tinkered with it after using it for motorcross. I started to find engineering more and more interesting, so off I went to study Mechanical Engineering at the ROC college in Hengelo. Next, I took the Mechanical Engineering course at Saxion University of Applied Sciences in Enschede. After university, I worked for various companies in the food industry, waste recycling and general mechanical engineering. The work I did was in areas such as R&D, Project Engineering, Commissioning, and Project Management of a wide range of projects in the Netherlands and abroad.
Since I had already heard at lot of good things about VIRO, I decided to contact the Recruitment department. What really appealed to me was the fact that they are responsible for project management as well as engineering on a wide range of technical projects in a variety of different sectors. The details of the projects are worked out both internally and externally. I was soon invited for an interview and it worked out very well, as I have been working as a Project Engineer at VIRO’s Hengelo branch since January 2019.
It’s already been ten months, and I can safely say that I’m really enjoying it here. So far, I have worked on two projects at VIRO, and I’ve also carried out a range of activities at a client’s premises. Most of my time is spent working on the engineering for one of VDL Defence Technology’s projects. There are five of us on the team. In addition to this project, we have devised a variety of concepts for a client in the food industry. We have been streamlining a number of processes currently being done by hand, by integrating solutions such as mechanisation and robots. These are extremely interesting projects to be involved in.
I’ve also collaborated with engineering and project management departments on a number of small projects at Apollo Vredestein in Enschede. These mostly entailed making minor alterations or improvements to existing machinery. We also developed a number of auxiliary tools that simplify the operators’ job of setting up a variety of machines. The thing I like about these projects is that you get to liaise with all the departments involved, from the operators to the project management. What’s more, you actually get to see the machinery you’re working on, which makes it even more interesting for me, given my fascination for engineering. What I also like about VIRO is the friendly atmosphere at the company, and being able to work as part of a team on diverse projects.
Teams are made up of colleagues with different areas of expertise, so everyone has specific qualities they can bring in. I also believe it’s important that you always keep developing your skills; something that is certainly possible at VIRO.
