Job rotation... from Mechanical Engineering to Engineering Analysis

I have been employed at VIRO for over twelve years. About six years into my time here, I made the switch from Mechanical Engineering to Engineering Analysis. As far as work is concerned, not much has changed because I carried out work for both departments throughout my career at VIRO. Since my first day at work in Mechanical Engineering, I have been in touch with the Engineering Analysis department as I started working on pipe stress calculations. I was later offered the opportunity to work with Femap and become more familiar with FEM (finite element calculations). This depended on either the available work or the projects at Mechanical Engineering.

I was also offered the opportunity to expand my knowledge in te field of constructing and detailing machines.

I made the switch to Engineering Analysis so that I would have more time to learn about FEM. I really needed this time to do this job properly. When I switched to Engineering Analysis, the emphasis on work for Mechanical Engineering shifted as opposed to it stopping altogether.

My work for both departments made my role particularly interesting. This was because of the high degree of variety as well as the interaction between the two departments.

The work gave me the opportunity to combine functional and technical aspects in projects.

In practice, this can be a very challenging puzzle to piece together!
